With the contractor on site, and the Chapter House completely empty for the first time since the 1980s, the HLF-funded Alban, Britain’s First Saint project has now moved into the construction phase. Hoardings have been constructed around the building work and the next archaeological dig on the ‘Monks’ Graveyard’ site in Sumpter Yard is currently underway.
Behind the scenes several teams prepare for the implementation of a brand-new interpretation scheme and activity plan developed by Mather & Co to engage new audiences and encourage more visitors to come along.
The Alban, Britain’s First Saint project is a transformational scheme, designed to bring recognition to the heritage of St Albans Cathedral, which sits at the heart of a thriving local community and hosts one of the largest Cathedral congregations in the country.
The project is due to open in Spring 2019. Watch this space…
