We are thrilled to announce that Lincoln Cathedral Connected has secured funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) with the help of Mather & Co. Today the HLF announced its support for the project with an earmarked £11.3million and an initial £900,000 grant to allow project development to start.
Mather & Co have been working with the Cathedral since our appointment in September 2014 following a competitive tender. The impressive £16million project will transform the Cathedral with new buildings for classrooms and an exhibition space as well as renovations to the existing architecture. The exhibition will explore Lincoln Cathedral’s rich history and its unique stories whilst allowing new access to its collection of manuscripts, sculpture and archaeology. Extensive landscaping will also open up the Cathedral’s surrounding areas, making them accessible to the public for the first time in decades.
The project aims to bring new audiences to the Cathedral and increase visitor footfall. A new activity programme will encourage schools, young people, families and adult learners to visit the site whilst also creating a number of new jobs and opportunities for volunteers.
We are delighted to be involved in such an ambitious project which will not only help conserve the heritage of this prestigious building but also plans to help boost the local economy. Congratulations to all the team at Lincoln Cathedral!
