Cheshire based design consultancy, Mather & Co is currently undertaking an exciting project at the home of British Motor Racing, Silverstone, where His Royal Highness Prince Harry has recently been announced as the Royal Patron of the project to develop Silverstone Heritage Experience which is due to open in 2018.
Sally Reynolds, CEO at Silverstone Heritage Ltd said:
“We are delighted that Prince Harry has agreed to be the project’s Royal Patron. He has expressed his support for the project and the opportunity to recognise the part Britain has played in motorsport historically and also the vital role British expertise plays in the modern era. HRH is keen to draw attention to this contribution as a means of encouraging more people into engineering and the thriving British motor sport industry.”
The project is also supported by other patrons whose names are synonymous with success in British motor sport, including: Ross Brawn OBE, Martin Brundle, Howden Ganley, Damon Hill OBE, Nigel Mansell CBE, Sir Stirling Moss OBE, Sir Jackie Stewart OBE, Murray Walker OBE and Derek Warwick.
The long-standing partnership between Mather & Co and the Silverstone Heritage Experience dates back to 2012. The project will bring the extensive heritage of the country’s only licensed formula one circuit and British motor racing to life through the creation of a dynamic and interactive visitor experience and tours around the site.
The project will ensure that this heritage is explained and interpreted for today’s public as well as being protected for future generations through state-of-the-art displays and a new Collections and Research Centre located at the main entrance to the circuit.
On display will be a selection of the most important and impressive examples of cars and motorcycles whose provenance is tied to Silverstone. Exhibits will also incorporate the latest technology to tell the compelling stories of the people that are part of the famous site’s history along with those who have played an integral part in the history of British motor racing.
Chris Mather, Managing Director at Mather & Co, said:
“We are delighted with the support of His Royal Highness and to work for Silverstone Heritage Ltd on such an exciting project. As well as celebrating British motor racing, the project will also bring a range of opportunities to young people in the local area.
“Our ambition is that the exhibition will be highly animated and interactive in telling the stories of this great sport.”
The Silverstone Heritage Experience opens in October 2018.
