The Mather & Co designed Downton Abbey: The Exhibition opened at 57th St in Manhattan, New York on November 18th, 2017. One of our most prestigious projects, New York is the first stop of the US tour.
Favourite cast members from the iconic show were on hand to help cut the ribbon and declare the experience open but not before they had chance to explore the exhibition for themselves.
“This is a unique opportunity to step into Downton Abbey – to wander through the sumptuous rooms the family inhabit, the kitchen and servants quarters below stairs and to get right up close to many of the iconic costumes and props,” said Gareth Neame, Managing Director of Carnival Films and executive producer of Downton Abbey.
The exhibition offers a fully immersive experience into the world of the multi award-winning TV series, Downton Abbey. Official costumes worn by the likes of Michelle Doherty are showcased for visitors, along with never-before-seen content.
Nine different zones have been designed for visitors to explore the key rooms in the house, such as the gossip-fuelled servants’ hall and Mrs Patmore’s Kitchen. The dynamic duo of Mrs Patmore and Daisy found themselves together again in the downstairs kitchen during their recent visit to the exhibition.
“It’s all exactly the same,” said actress Sophie McShera who plays Daisy Mason in Downton Abbey “they’ve brought the house here. This is just exactly like the studio. Everything’s the same size. It’s great. It’s made us really nostalgic.” Lesley Nichol who played Mrs Patmore added “I think visitors are going to be knocked sideways by just how authentic it feels.”
