Mather & Co discuss their favourite projects…

Mather & Co have 25 years’ experience in museum, visitor attraction and exhibition design with a penchant for creating world-class attractions across the globe. Our remit on every single project we undertake is to engage, innovate and create experiences for audiences across sports, heritage, commercial and retail environments. The purpose of today’s piece is to discover which projects have left a lasting feeling of true accomplishment and are favourites with some of our team members. In no particular order here is a handful of our team explaining their choices:

Sarah – Managing Director

Favourite project – Archives+ at Manchester Central Library

“My favourite project is Archives+ at Manchester Central Library because it paved the way for how archives could be used in a more engaging way to attract new and younger audiences. Since its launch in 2014, there has been millions of visitors and it is now the most visited public library in the country. It was great project that made a real difference!”

Phil – Graphic Designer

Favourite project – Paris Saint-Germain History Room

“I would have to say Paris Saint-Germain History Room as I’m such a big football fan, so to get the opportunity to design an exhibition for a top European team was a dream come true. It was great to work with the team on site to help augment the Stadium Tour with some amazing club history.”

Emma – Studio Manager

Favourite project – Durham History Centre

“Durham History Centre primarily because of the team’s enthusiasm. They have consistently pulled together to find great stories even if the process took them out their comfort zone. With this project we really hope to transform access to and preservation of County Durham’s heritage when it opens to the public.”

Paul – Design Director

Favourite project – Downton Abbey & York Minster

“Two for me – Downton Abbey as I got to work around the world and I also have a keen fondness for the programme. I was really proud to work on this project – especially as it was voted in the top 10 best pop culture exhibitions in the world by Matador Network.”

Exhibition Design

“Project two is York Minster, my first Mather & Co project – in a gorgeous building which involved creating two very different types of installations. I had come from a company that shielded its designers from big presentations and suddenly I had to present to Heritage Lottery Fund, to Dean and Chapter, to the Fabric Committee. This project put me in a good stead to where I am today.”

Exhibition Design

Leanne – 3D Junior Designer

Favourite project – National Paralympic Heritage Trust Regional Exhibitions

“I liked working on the National Paralympics Heritage Trust regional exhibitions at Gunnersbury Park and Cliffe Castle as they were my first projects with Mather & Co. I researched and discovered a range of fascinating information about an inspiring subject, as well as  learning how to design effectively for people with a wide range of disabilities. What can be better than designing an exhibition that you can say is truly accessible for all?”
