The fascinating story of rugby in South Africa has been described as much more than just the life cycle of a sporting federation, rather the lens through which people can actually view the history of the nation itself.
Telling that compelling story will be the responsibility of Mather & Co after being asked by the South Africa Rugby Union to design the brand new Springbok Experience, due to open in September as a dedicated stand-alone building on Cape Town’s prestigious V&A Waterfront.
The building’s ground floor will be divided between an ‘Experience’ taster, a retail store and ‘Springbok Trials’, an interactive game zone area. The second storey is devoted entirely to a museum and will cover the full breadth and complexity of Springbok rugby.
Andy Colquhoun, GM Corporate Affairs at SARU said: “After several months discussing the concept with various South African companies, as well as researching international design specialists further afield, we were delighted to appoint Mather & Co and ask them to realise the vivid and compelling history of rugby in South Africa.”
