It has been revealed that Museo Volvo Ocean Race is now one of the most popular attractions in the bustling tourist city of Alicante, in southern Spain, with an astonishing 50,488 visitors in 2015.
Recognised as the world’s leading offshore sailing events museum, the innovative attraction saw a raft of visitors in 2015, ranging from tourists (44% overseas) to local schoolchildren taking advantage of the free educational programme on offer.
Inaugurated in June 2012, the Volvo Ocean Race museum is a modern exhibition dedicated to the 42 years of history of the round-the-world race for crewed boats.
Mather & Co. designed the museum so that visitors of all ages would have the opportunity to see race action unfold from within a high-tech Race Control Room. Interactive touch-screen panels allow guests to interact fully with the exhibitions and immerse themselves in the story of this prestigious event and sport.
