Mather & Co client, The Royal Mint Experience has won ‘Tourist Attraction of the Year’ in The Welsh Hospitality Awards 2019 having opened its gates to the public for the first time in over 1000 years back in May 2016.
Visitor attraction designers, Mather & Co developed all the interpretive content alongside the client team, and designed the permanent visitor centre, the factory experience, entrance and retail space.
The objectives of the visitor attraction design were to make the visit as accessible to all and allow a new generation to get involved in what The Royal Mint does. The Royal Mint Experience welcomed an impressive 40,000 visitors within the first five months of opening.
Visitors can get fully immersed in the exhibition along the way, enter a 360-degree AV film placing them on the production process, throw coins into wishing wells and piggy banks, learn about the military and sporting medals that are produced and hear the stirring stories behind them.
