Bringing the Olympic values and competition to life for a global audience
Mather & Co won a competitive tender to design the new IOC Olympic Museum in Lausanne, Switzerland. We developed the initial masterplan into a fully detailed design over three floors. The exhibition area was remodelled and redoubled in size to 3000m².
The three floors of permanent exhibition space examine the Olympic World, Olympic Games and the Olympic Spirit using new displays, interactive exhibits, unique collections items and engaging audio-visual displays. Visitors can move from Ancient Greece to the founding father of the Olympic Movement Pierre de Coubertin to the hosting of the Olympic Games themselves.
The Olympic Museum re-opened to the public on 21 December 2013 after 23 months of renovation. It welcomed 50,000 visitors in the first month alone and continues to attract many more.
